Regular Exercise 🆚 Overtraining

• Regular exercise involves moderate amount of exercise done on a regular basis(between 30 and 60 minutes at least 5 days per week)
• Overtraining occurs when the volume and intensity of an individual’s exercise exceeds their recovery capacity.
• Overtraining also occurs when extreme amount of exercise is done over a short period of time(For example, engaging in high intensity exercise for more than 90 minutes only on Saturdays)
• Overtraining is a common problem in weight training, but it can also be experienced by runners and otherathletes.
• Spending long hours on high intensity exercise in the gym may be doing more harm than good.

Some  side effects of overtraining includes:
• Overtraining makes one more susceptible to muscle soreness and increases the risk of injury.
• Over training can cause frustration, anger, stress, release of free radicals and suppress the immune system.
• It can increase cortisol levels and interfere with emotional and mental function.
• The harder such people work out the more their strength is diminishing.
• Those who over-train only occasionally increase their risk for heart attacks.
• One can run several kilometres every day and still not be protected against heart disease, cancer and other chronic diseases if it’s too strenuous.
• Most people don’t exercise enough therefore you may not be bothered about overtraining except you are an athlete.
