You can experience a light doze for hours and still feel refreshed on getting up. It is not a waste of time.
• If you can’t drift into dream sleep for a long time after being in bed; it’s better to lie down experiencing the light doze than getting up and forcing yourself into full wakefulness; because after a while, you will drift into the dream sleep. However if you force yourself into full wakefulness, you will have to start the process all over again. This can lead to sleeping problem
