How many hours of sleep does an adult need in a day?
• Sleep needs vary among individuals and at different ages but the variation is not much.
• An adult needs seven to nine hours of sleep uninterrupted in the night.
• Those who sleep for few hours, but believe that they don’t need more and seem to be coping, are already adapted to their high adrenaline level.
• In times of stress, the need for sleep will decrease but you should plan to sleep more when the stress period is over.
• The sleep you get is like a bank account with a minimum balance penalty. When you get up to 8 or 9 hours, you have extra deposit and if occasionally you don’t get up to that, you are not too much over drawn.  Withdrawing without replacing habitually will make the account collapse some day and that’s what happens to the body, if you don’t get enough sleep. It can reduce one’s quality of life and shorten one’s lifespan.
• You could improve your physical and emotional health if you just sleep more.
