Miracle or food?

Introduction: If God pays attention to nutrition, then Christians should!!! In Gen 1: 29: God specified to the man he had created what he should eat. He specifically told him to eat every herb bearing seed upon the face of the earth for food. He told him to have dominion over the fish of the sea, the fowl of the air and all the other living creatures but did not tell him to eat all of them. That means common sense should tell us in our days, that we shouldn’t eat all kinds of animals.

In Genesis chapter 2: 16&17: God commanded the man that of every tree of the garden, he may freely eat, except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God was very particular about what man eats.

Unfortunately, the enemy came to confuse man through Eve who did not have complete knowledge on what to eat and not eat in Genesis chapter 3. The temptation and confusion of man was about food, and eating the wrong thing eventually led to his fall.  This is a great lesson for Christians that it is very important that you pay attention to and know what to eat and not to eat clearly to the extent that the enemy of your soul will not be able to confuse you.

Nutrition is more important than dresses, houses, cars and any other thing you can think of in this world

In Genesis chapter 6, God had planned to destroy the whole world with flood. Flood is a physical phenomenon and He instructed Noah to also prepare a physical ark to hide himself and his family during this disaster. Despite the covenant to keep them alive no matter how terrible the flood is in v 18& 19, God specifically instructed Noah to take unto him of all kinds of foods that are eaten.  Have you ever wondered what would have happened to Noah’s house, dresses and properties during the flood? Nutrition is more important than dresses, houses, cars and any other thing you can think of in this world as far as God is concerned. This means that Christians should have a rethink about our priorities and begin to place more attention and importance on what we eat compared to building sky-scrapers in this world. After all, if you don’t eat right and it affects your health and life span, other people will enjoy those things you have built.

God will not solve all problems by miracles even though he can

In Matt 4: 4: Jesus had a challenge about food and nutrition: he was hungry after fasting. The devil quickly went to him telling him to use anointing and miracle to turn stone into bread for himself. He refused. The power of God can turn stone to bread it if it’s really necessary; it is just like feeding the five thousand with little bread and fish but Jesus would not use the power anyhow just because he was hungry.

In the same way, the power of God can heal you from diseases that result from unhealthful eating and carelessness, but the power of God will not put the right kind of food in your mouth by force and may not prevent the consequences of unhealthful eating in your life.

In Mark 5: 23& 35, the author shows that Jairus’ daughter was ill and needed healing but in the process, the sickness led to death therefore he needed not just healing now but a miracle of being raised from the dead. In Mark 5: 43, Jesus performed a miracle of raising the girl to life but told the parents to give her food immediately. He did not assume that they will know. God is manifesting here again how much he respects the law of nutrition. If the girl did not eat, she might have been too weak to stand up and continue walking around and this might have affected her health again.  Meanwhile, the parents would have thought that the power of God did not really complete the job. Jesus demonstrated that God would not solve all problems by miracles, otherwise he could have declared to her, ‘Tabitha be filled and not hungry again’.

The power of God is able to heal and deliver from the dead but will not put the right food in people’s mouth. The law of nutrition is part of the laws of nature that God himself has put in place and food problems must be solved nutritionally and not miraculously.

Tips for eating healthy

  • Eat a wide varieties of food especially plant based locally available foods
  • The first rule God gave in Genesis 1: 29 is to eat all kinds of plant based food available
  • Then in Genesis chapter 6 v 21, after God had given Noah his covenant to protect himself and his family in spite of the terrible flood that will destroy the whole world, he gave a specific instruction to him to take of all the kinds of food that are eaten into the ark.
  • Limit animal based food to not more than the size of a pack of cards per day.
  • In Leviticus chapter 7, God gave several instructions on the kind of animals that His covenant children should not eat and the ones they can eat. If you are a covenant child of God today, you should pay attention to them. Avoid pork and its products.
  • Eat the right thing at the right time.
    • In Eccl 10: 16&17 the bible says ‘Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning. Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness.
    • This proves that there’s a correct time to eat certain things. The morning might not be the best time to feast on heavy meals. Eat light in the morning, heavy in the afternoon and light at night.
